It's been a while!

It has definatly been a busy week for me! School has been jammed packed and I have been real busy with homework. It all payed off as the first mod of school is over! It is a great feeling to be able to move on to the second mod. There was a graduation on Friday for three girls. It is weird to think that in 11 months I will be up there talking about my Remington/cosmetology adventures. I am very excited about that :). Y'all know I love talking lol. Ok well this last week we learned and performed on each other, manicures, pedicures, and shampoo and styles. It was a lot of fun. I had a hard time having my pedicure done, I don't like people touching my feet, but it all worked out and I survived haha. I was very excited about getting our first kits on Friday. It includes our first manikins (her name is Miss Anna), combs and brushes, roller sets, clips, and the little carrying tote bag. I was very excited! :) Yesterday we went toFlorence to Alicia and Cassie's church for a Christmas party, it was a lot of fun. Everyone was real nice and the food was good, I loved the singing and the message from the Christmas story. Two ladies sang Mary did you know. It was beautiful! Being the Christmas season I knew we would be missing out on some traditions from home (like christmas trees, christmas eve party, the night before christmas book, etc) and I knew we were going to be making our own traditions, but I have to say that I really miss our family traditions. Things are so very different from home. A christmas tree here is $50! and they aren't the real ones like we have at home. Back home you know it's Christmas time just by the smell. It smells like Christmas, the trees, the food, everything. Here it smells like.....well it doesn't smell like Christmas. I guess I am just a bit homesick. Anywho, today I have some homework to finish and church to get to and then maybe a good Sunday movie with my sisters. (making our own traditions) :) take care everyone and remember to say Merry Christmas to someone, it may be the one thing that makes their day better. Maybe they are homesick, or have family away, or they could just use a smile and Merry Christmas.

End of a fantastic week

hello again! It has been a few days! Well let's see here....So much going on. On thursday I got a 98% on my test woooo. Then I started learning how to do corn rows! I was excited! Yesterday I got a 97% on my assignment. I know they are good scores, I just can't help but wish they were higher...maybe 100% haha. Anyways, yesterday I finished the corn rows on my maniquin and they looked pretty good I thought. But everyone elses looked amazing so I need to practice more, Alicia said I can do corn rows on her hair tonight. Today Alicia and Cassie have a Christmas Party at their church so I curled/pinned alicia's hair and braided cassie's. I am posting those pics on here. Oh and also I am posting a picture of the gas prices. They are amazingly low! They are lower now considering this picture is from a couple days ago but WOW! I think I am making friends with some people in my class. :) Which is nice. It is hard being way over here and not knowing anyone. Back home it wasnt like this, it seems I am home sick a little. I am very happy here though. I am glad to be here, just missing friends and family back home. I hope I won't forget what y'all look like lol. I have discovered just about how different things are here. Couple nights ago we had a "visitor". Haha too bad it wasn't for us. It was about 11:30pm and Alicia and I were in the living room, she just finished helping me study for my test and she was studying for her test. I had started to fall asleep on the couch and we heard a BANGING on the door. Not a knocking, no not knocking, BANGING. Like when the cops come to the door and bang. Scared the pee outta me almost. Alicia and I were both like "is that our door?" and sure enough it was. So I went over and looked out the peep hole, but I couldn't make out who it was (mind you my brain was still on the couch trying to wake up still) so I opened the door a tad and this girl pushed it all the way open and said "who are you?" and started taking her shoes off! I said uh, who are you!?! Then she looked up and Alicia and I and said, "where's Steve?" So Alicia said you have the wrong house, and she didn't believe her. She said "are you sure??" I said "yeah this is our house, no one named Steve lives here" and she said "well I have been here with him before outside....I work with him"(I suppose maybe she thought if she mentioned she worked with him I might change my mind and decide Steve lives here and i was hiding him the whole time. *rolls eyes*) So I said well he doesn't live here sorry wrong house. And she said "he drives a big white truck,& lives here." Then it registered she was talking about the guy who always parks his big white truck in front of the dumpster blocking us in our spaces. So we said OH that guy! He lives under us. and she said "are you sure?" Uh no I lied he lives in my pantry...."Yes I am sure" And then haha she said...."well how do I get down there?" I just looked at Alicia, like did she really just ask that? So I said, "go down the ramp and down the stairs." So she put her shoes back on and left. Alicia and I just sat there for a couple minutes and I looked at her and said That JUST happened....for real. I wasnt dreaming right? Nope I wasn't. *sigh* That was pretty entertaining. Anyways I have lots of homework chapter 11 is a beast. I am fixin to pull my books out so I'll be back another day!

cookies and milk

So today went really well! I was able to get ahold of the lady at the no kill shelter here and she is sending me some information on how to get this kitty a home! YAY! Then at school today I had two assignments graded and I got a 95% on one and the 100% on another! I am so happy! I have a test tomorrow, and I am pretty ready for it. We are working on braids on the maniquins right now and I am just having the toughest time with them because they have to be so small, but I am managing. I am almost done with the full head of box braids so tomorrow I will take a picture and post it when I get home. I am pretty proud of them even though they don't look like everyone else's in the class. The majority of them have been braiding like that for years and years with their family and friends. There was one girl who was whipping them out like nobodys business! And she only using two fingers its crazy!! I made cookies tonight for class tomorrow and I tried a new recipe, I am not really sure I will use this one again.....idk maybe I am just too critical sometimes. If anyone has any good recipes please share! :) well now I am off to bed I am WIPED!

Sunday Sunday Sunday!

IT'S SUNDAY! Yay! Today was pretty much the shortest day ever!! I was up until 5:30 this morning doing homework then I fell asleep until 8 then remembered church doesn't start until 1 so I fell back asleep and didn't wake up until 3! I missed church all together! I felt terrible! So I finished my homework and called some family and spent some time talking to them. I tried to get facebook video chat to work, and I am pretty sure it works accept there was no one available to test it with me. So if anyone is available soon just let me know so I can test it. It's funny because we were planning on video chatting with family on thanksgiving and we were preparing for it and then we realized we dont have a web cam haha. And then I remembered I have a web cam on my computer, the only problem is my computer won't charge unless I hold the cord in, for 1.5-2 hours haha and at the moment it keeps jumping in and out, hopefully it will work on Christmas! Today I started to really feel homesick for family. I suppose it's mostly because I am seeing the neighbors with their families and such, coming and going from thanksgiving. *sigh* I guess I am on a bit of a pity party today. Well that's all for tonight.

homework, new movie, funny show, spilled milk

*sigh* Soooooo much homework! It's so funny, everyone in class was so happy to hear that we were doing chaper 5 only. Last time we did chapter 1 and 2 homework together and I spose that seemed like a heavy load. Well let me tell ya after I realized chapter 5 has 331 questions to answer (most of which are long sentence answers) I was not as excited. ha. well needless to say I am striving to be top of my class so I will NOT complain. Complainers don't get top of their class....i dont think so at least. lol. Alicia got a new movie from netflix called Post Grad. It was really good. Very funny. We had chicken enchiladas for supper. :) Very Very delicious. Then I watched some really funny clips from the Ellen Show. She cracks me up! Whenever I feel a little down or just grumpy I find I can always laugh with her show clips. :) Lets see....spilled milk (well actually spilled wax) I was closing my curtains and bumped the cord to my scentsy burner and it fell off my desk and spilled BRIGHT PURPLE wax onto the CREAM/OFF WHITE carpet....yeah that made my heart drop. I quickly picked it up and grabbed a cloth and started scrubbing, of course it didn't all come up (that would of course just be too easy). I spose this is why we payed a redecorating fee and deposit when we moved in, to cover things like this. Still I feel terrible and I am thinking of how to cover it so I don't have to see it everyday lol. I am still working on my painting but I am finding homework is just a little more important right now, as soon as I finish an assignment though, I do pick the brush up. :) I will finish it one of these days. I promise myself that. Monday I will be able to call the no kill animal shelter for the kitty outside our apartment. Hopefully they will have room, if not I am not sure what I'll do. I don't want her to go somewhere where they will put her down if she doesn't find a home. Anyone want a cat? lol. Well wish me luck for that. I am off now, finish homework and maybe even sleep tonight. :) I have slept real good the last couple nights. :)

desk, movies, potato pearls

So today was pretty crazy, not at first though. This morning and early afternoon were pretty laid back, just hanging out and watching movies. Then I saw on craigslist an ad for a free desk so I convinced (begged) Cassie and Alicia to go with me to pick it up. It is pretty big and we had to come back home to get a screwdriver to take it apart lol and then go back and load up. It is now offically put together and in my room! YAY only down side is I didn't get the drawers that go with it but that's ok I really just need the top anyways lol. Funny note: On our way back from finding the desk the first time, we passed a cemetary and a crematory (sp) that had a sign out front that said the crematory was having a grand opening and it had a deal; buy one get one free. I was very confused about that. How does a crematory/cemetary offer  buy one get one free. Everyone in the car was laughing so hard all the way home. I know it sounds morbid and all but for some reason it was funny. So we watched a movie called "The secret life of bees" it has Jennifer Hudson Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning in it. It was an amazing movie! AND it takes place in South Carolina which was cool, made me feel special living here and all lol. We had chicken for dinner which was delicious! OH OH OH and Kathy and Blaine and Sara sent me some potato pearls from back home! YAY! I was very excited to see the box on my counter when I got home today! Well now I am off to start some homework on my new desk :) .....well maybe in a bit lol.

Happy Thanksgiving! Gobble Gobble!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!! I hope y'all are having a great day! Today was interesting, definatly not like back home. I think the main difference I have noticed is the silence. I left a big loud family in a big house to a small apartment with just three of us. We were going to video chat with family today until we realized we don't have a web cam lol. We spoke on speaker phone which was nice. :) Today we went to a restaurant called Shoneys (sp) they had a thanksgiving buffet today which was awesome! Then we went to Irmo to get a free shelf from a curb alert. Both Alicia and Cassie laughed at me for it because it was dirty when we picked it up, but after I get it cleaned off and painted it will be perfect! Now I just need a desk! :) It has been really laid back today movies and hanging out. It is nice to have a few days off school. I am going to get ahead on homework and such just to get ahead lol. I figure if I have time I might as well. I was sitting on the couch earlier watching people outside coming to visit their families and such. I kept hoping maybe someone for us would come. High hopes but eh. I am working on my painting this weekend which will be good to have a few days to do that too! I am pretty excited for it to be finished! OH another thing, today I took a picture of the gas sign....gas is 3.03 a gallon! So attached is a picture of the gas prices lol and my painting....work in progress.

This is the life!

Wow the days are just flying by! Today I got my homework grade back 98% YAY!!!! I was super excited, considering the instructer (Ms. Tee) was saying that the majority of the students didn't do well on the homework or copied someone else who didn't do well. Which kinda baffles me because everything is either in the book or our own thoughts (meaning there is not really a wrong answer on that second part) We started working on the mannequins (sp) yesterday with parting and such. Today we were graded on that and Ms. Tee said mine was pretty good, not bad. So I think that is good....I hope. Today we started box braids. They are so tiny! These are the tic tacs of all braids! It's crazy! But I am learning new things and that is a plus. I think I may have made a friend or two so that is good too. That of course not counting the cat in our parking lot who is now my friend lol. She has no tags and is quite thin. Unfortunatly I am not allowed to feed her or keep her. :( I am in search of a no kill shelter in the area. I found two and one is full. The lady there said that they might possibly have room in a month, which just isn't soon enough. Then the other no kill shelter said the lady I need to speak with is out of the office until Monday. So this cat will have to make due until then. I called animal control and they said "if the animal is not adopted out within a certain time frame they are then "killed"" I asked if they at least gave the animals a chance to be adopted first and the lady said she thought so but wasn't sure. I don't think that is good enough. I need a definate. *sigh* well I have a lot of homework this weekend, good thing it is a 4 day weekend! I am very excited about this upcoming week though, and learning more. I think this is really it, this is really something I enjoy and this is something that is going to help me become the person I want to be. I am learning so many new things. Anywho I am going to eat the pizza we just made (aka bought and threw in the oven) and watch a movie with the girls. I really enjoy these nights where we can spend more than 20 minutes in the car together. :)

1 week down! First blog!

So this week has flown by so fast! I was thinking last night about starting this blog and how I should have started this when I got here haha. That's ok I'll just play catch up! Well I left Washington last Saturday (12th) and got here in Columbia, South Carolina. It seemed that I slept late the first few days here (time change and all) so I felt like a bum lol. I think I have caught up now to the time difference haha. I applied and enrolled in school this last week, which is exciting and I start classes tomorrow! YAY! I am taking classes for cosmotology and it is a 12 month course so in 1 year I will have that under my belt! YAY. Lets see so I went to church today which was exciting and found out that there is a singles ward close by and I will start going there next week, instead of the family ward which is exciting. I will get to meet some people my own age and hopefully make some friends. :) I met one of our neighbors today she is nice and has a dalmation named katie. :) so far my life here isn't overwhelming exciting, but it is very exciting anyways! I made cookies last night! yay I think the next batch will be better though. Everyone here seems to be really nice, southern hospitality and all. Well except while driving that is. haha. Most people here don't drive very well. The whole no blocking intersection thing doesn't really matter here. Kind of the same as parking in actual parking spaces....yeah that is a foriegn term to a lot of people here. haha. We have a recreation center across the way from the apartments and we have gone there almost everyday since I've been here which is fun! Well it seems like I have done so much this week but I can't think of anything else to blog today, so I will blog again tomorrow night. Toodles! :)
